A-State’s Compton Named Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference

JONESBORO, Ark. (4/17/17) – Arkansas State sophomore Beth Ann Compton has been named a second team selection the 2017 All-Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Team, announced Monday by the league office.

Compton makes her first appearance on the All-Sun Belt team and gives the Red Wolves an all-conference selection for the second straight year.  The Red Wolves have now had 19 players earn the recognition a combined 32 times.

The Hartselle, Ala., native was one of six players in the league to earn second-team honors, while an additional six player received first-team accolades.  The Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golfer of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year will be nominated and voted upon after the conclusion of the league tournament, currently being held in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Compton is the only A-State player to compete in all 11 tournaments this season, posting a team-best 76.10 stroke average that also ranks 14th in the Sun Belt Conference.  She collected at least a top-25 finish in eight tournaments and placed tied for 10th or better in five outings, including a season-best tied for seventh at the MVC Preview.

Compton also finished tied for ninth at both the Lady Red Wolves Classic and Texas State Invitational, while placing tied for 10th at the Bradley Spring Break Invite and Jan Weaver Invitational.  Compton posted a career-low 54-hole score of 221 at the MVC Preview and recorded a career-best round of 68 at the same tourney.

A Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar and Arkansas State Athletics Director’s Honor Roll and Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List member, Compton is majoring in mechanical engineering at Arkansas State University.
