Arkansas State’s Ty Michelotti Walk-Off Caps Sweep

JONESOBORO, Ark. – Junior left fielder Ty Michelotti hit into a walk-off fielder’s choice and senior Zach Maggio beat the throw home for the winning score capping a four-run ninth inning rally as Arkansas State defeated Louisiana Monroe 10-9 to sweep the weekend series. A-State entered the ninth inning trailing 9-6 but would push across four runs in the inning for the win.

ULM built a 6-1 lead heading into the sixth inning when Arkansas State began battling back into the game. Senior short stop Dustin Jones would start the comeback with a two-run double in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-3.

ULM would stretch the lead back to 8-3 in the and the Red Wolves would respond with three runs as Jones scored on a fielder’s choice, freshman second baseman Eric Wilcoxson scored on sophomore first baseman Matt Burgess‘ single and Michelotti drew a bases loaded walk to cut the lead to 8-6

The Warhawks would manufacture an insurance run in the ninth that would not be enough. A-State led the ninth with a walk and a hit by pitch, putting two runners on with no outs. Wilcoxson would single and an error led to the first Red Wolves’ score of the ninth. Maggio hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Jones to cut the lead to 9-8.

After a strike out, Burgess singled through the right side scoring Wilcoxson to tie the game. ULM loaded the bases with an intentional walk to put the force in play and Michelotti hit a chopper to ULM’s second baseman who was unable to throw out Maggio as A-State improves to 24-16 with a 13-5 Sun Belt record and ULM falls to 16-26 and 7-10 in the Sun Belt.
