JONESBORO, Ark. (9/22/14) – Arkansas State senior linebacker Qushaun Lee (Prattville, Ala.) and senior cornerback Artez Brown (Newport, Ark.) have been named the Sun Belt Conference’s Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for their performance during the Red Wolves’ 21-14 overtime victory against Utah State.

Lee recorded a season-high 13 tackles, team-high 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a pass break-up, leading A-State’s defense that allowed just 14 points to Utah State.  Lee’s 13 tackles were just three shy of his career high, tied the most by an A-State player this season and marked the 11th time of his career he recorded a double-figure stops total.  He was also part of the Red Wolves’ defense that kept Utah State off the scoreboard on four possessions that began in A-State territory.

Also named College Sports Madness’ Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Lee now has a team-leading 31 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions this season.

Brown blocked a 38-yard field goal attempt by Utah State as time expired in regulation, forcing overtime.  Utah State recovered a Red Wolves’ fumble with 47 seconds left in the game and drove 10 yards to the 28-yard line before Brown came up with the block that allowed A-State to win the game in overtime.  Brown collected his first career blocked kick, which was also the Red Wolves first of the season.

He was also responsible for six tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and a game-high two pass break-ups.  Brown now has 12 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and four pass break-ups, which are tied with senior cornerback Andrew Tryon for the most on the team.

Lee was recognized as the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time of his career, while Brown was honored with one of the league’s weekly awards for the first time of his career.

Arkansas State has an open week before returning to action Oct. 4, when it will host Louisiana-Monroe at 6 p.m. in its Sun Belt Conference opener.  Tickets for A-State’s four remaining home contests are on sale and can be purchased by calling the A-State Box Office at 870-972-2781 or 1-888-ASU-FANS.  Tickets may also be ordered online at
