The Sporting News’ Hayes ranks South Alabama’s Jones in top half of football coaches in Sun Belt

College football writer Matt Hayes of The Sporting News is producing his coaches rankings for each of the Football Bowl Subdivision conferences. Today, he tackled the Sun Belt Conference.

In his rankings, which you can see by clicking on the link that is provided, he hasSouth Alabama head coach Joey Jones No. 4 in the league, followed at No. 5 byTroy‘s Larry Blakeney.

As with most such polls, Louisiana-Lafayette’s Mark Hudspeth, a former North Alabama head coach, is at the top of the list.

Hayes noted the progress Jones has made in starting the Jaguars’ program from scratch, while he noted that Blakeney may need to get the Trojans in the postseason this year to hold on to his job.
