JONESBORO, Ark. (10/14/14) – The excitement for the upcoming 2014-15 Arkansas State University men’s basketball season continues to build as the Red Wolves held their Basketball Media Day this Tuesday (Oct. 14) afternoon at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

Head coach John Brady along with four A-State student-athletes – junior forward Kelvin Downs, redshirt junior guard Sean Gardner, junior guard Cameron Golden, and redshirt sophomore guard PJ Hardwick were present to speak with the local media members from a number of print and broadcast media outlets.

A variety of  group photos were taken at the Convocation Center, including the 2014-15 men’s basketball team photo.

Following the photo session, the Red Wolves conducted practice on the Convocation Center floor.

“This is going to be a fun team to watch if there’s any indication at this point, “said Brady, who starts his seventh season at A-State in 2014-15.  “Our progress has been good and the practices much more competitive than last season.  We have a solid collection of players not to mention good talent, size and length, and depth.  I really like their approach, attitude, unselfishness, and willingness to compete against one another.”

A-State returns three letter winners in Downs, Golden, and junior guard Josh Pierre from last season’s 19-13 team while welcoming 12 newcomers to the 2014-15 squad. Golden, a 2014-15College Sports Madness All-Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Preseason Fourth Team selection, is the Red Wolves’ top returnee after averaging 7.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game last season.  Joining him areKelvin Downs (2.2 ppg., 2.2 rpg., 0.6 bpg.) along with redshirt junior college standout Sean Gardner andPJ Hardwick, a North Texas transfer who sat out the 2013-14 season due to the NCAA Division I Transfer Rule.

“Our team this year is good enough to be where we’ve been (19 victories in each of the last two seasons), but the biggest challenge is for them to play together and build team camaraderie.  We’re going to play extremely hard and compete with the goal of winning our conference tournament and going to the NCAA Tournament,” said Brady.

A-State starts its 2014-15 campaign with two home exhibition games against Henderson State (Nov. 5) and Southern Arkansas (Nov. 12) at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.  Both contests are scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. (CT) opening tipoff.  The Red Wolves will officially begin the season Nov. 17 hosting Tennessee-Martin in a 7:05 p.m. (CT) non-conference tilt at the Convocation Center.

The Sun Belt Conference will be announcing its 2014-15 Preseason All-Conference Basketball Teams and Preseason Coaches Poll Thursday, Oct. 23.
