HOUSTON, Texas. (11/23/14) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling squad advanced to the championship tilt, but fell to Nebraska in the finals of the Sam Houston State TRACK Kat Klash Sunday afternoon at Emerald Lanes in Houston, Texas.

The Red Wolves (42-14) lost the first game of the best-of-seven Baker match to the Cornhuskers 275-197 after Nebraska opened with eight consecutive strikes.  A-State bounced back to win game two 234-214, but the Cornhuskers obtained a 3-1 advantage after taking games three (204-149) and four (205-174).  Arkansas State won a hard-fought game five 151-149 before earning a 209-180 victory in game six.  Nebraska topped the Red Wolves 226-161 in the decisive game seven to take home the title by a score of 4-3.

“We had lane choice for game seven and took lane five because we felt it was the better lane,” A-State women’s bowling coach Justin Kostick said.  “Nebraska just threw it better though and you have to tip your cap to them.”

A-State advanced to the title game by defeating Central Missouri in a closely contested match 4-3.  The Red Wolves bowled against Grambling in their next match and defeated the Lady Tigers in a match that had no bearing on the bracket.

Arkansas State returns to action after winter break on Jan. 16-18 at its host tournament, the Mid-Winter Invitational.  The three-day event will take place at the Jonesboro Bowling Center and admission is free.  Fans can keep up with the Arkansas State women’s bowling team by following them on Twitter (@stAtebowling) and by liking the Arkansas State Women’s Bowling page on Facebook.
